week three

24th February 2020

During this week I carried out more secondary research related to me final major project. This research included finding out about the history of Vogue, from when it first launched in 1892 until now. This was interesting to me and has inspired me to look at famous vogue front covers from each decade. Doing this will help me understand how fashion photography has evolved.

I have also researched a photographer called George Hurrell who was recommended to me by my tutor. George Hurrell was a photographer who contributed to the image of glamour presented by Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s. It was intriguing for to look at his work and I now know how to create the Hollywood glamour look of the 30s and 40s and hope to evident this in my practical work.

Our deadline for first proposal draft was the 26th of February, I had completed my proposal by the end of this week. On Thursday I was given feedback on my draft proposal from my tutor which helped me to improve and finalise it. I have now uploaded my final proposal before the deadline on the 4th of March.

This week I focused on getting inspiration for my first photoshoot. I have the idea that I would like to carry out a photoshoot for each decade that I want to recreate. This would mean having to complete nine photoshoots in total, I do not think that this is realistic if I want each shoot to be successful and of a high standard. Therefor, I will be creating multiple decades in each shoot. For my first photoshoot I would like to create both 20s and 30s images. I have now also decided that I would like for each of my images to be inspired by a front cover of vogue, this will give me a guideline. I have found a range of Vogue front covers from the 20s and 30s that will inspire my first photoshoot.

To complete his week, we visited an exhibition at Tavistock Place to gain inspiration for out final major projects. Visiting this exhibition gave me loads of ideas as to how I want to present my work in the summer show.
