Today we were given an artist talk on fashion photographer, Daniel Benson. We were told that Daniel Benson is known personally by our tutor, Steve, as they both previously worked on Ride BMX Magazine together in the mid 2000s. Daniel Benson was a photographer’s assistant for 10 years whilst working these BMX magazines.
After doing a photography degree at UWE Bristol he moved to London to live in a warehouse in Hackney. His magazine work started to develop a fashion-feel to it, this was influenced by his other job – assisting fashion photographers. He now works in London, shooting for exciting clients such as, Adidas, Fred Perry, Hunter Boots, Sony Records, Primark, and Atlantic Records. Benson used editorial work as a tool to attract the more lucrative advertising gigs.

Shoot for the Observer in Cape Town.

Shoot for make magazine UK.
I liked looking at Daniel Benson’s work, on his website and on his Instagram, as I am more interested in the commercial side of photography. I also found it interesting to find out about his journey through photography, to get where he is now, especially hearing it from my tutor who knows him personally.
